Mental Slavery : the tragedy of society

Once upon a time, there was this huge elephant that was caught and sent to a tour park. At the park, it was bound in the foot by a heavy shackle fastened to a thick metal bar. Considering the enormous size of this giant, it would take just a split second to pull up the bar with a single powerful strive. But anytime it tried moving, the feel of the chain on its foot kept it restraint.

For years it lived in the park, until a wild fire destroyed a large portion of the grazing field, and the caretakers decided to release the animals back to the forest before they starved. The chain on the elephant's foot was removed, but for hours, the caretakers observed it still stood where it was, not moving beyond the boundaries of the territory the chain had dictated for it. It had become so accustomed to its limitations that it couldn't even feel liberation when it came its way.

In many ways, most of us, youth of today, are just like this elephant in self-image. In reality, our potentials are as vast as it's enormous size, our capabilities great as its strength but our thinking as shallow as its. We grew up in societies with our minds indoctrinated with various nonsensical pseudo-limitations. We were told rising to some level on the academic ladder wasn't for us, that getting rich was the privilege of only rich kids, that ladies belonged to only the kitchen, and that being successful is an unrealistic dream.

Sadly many of us have imbibed the full strength of this poisonous mentality into our thought fibre: being nothing more than what others/society say we are. We are enslaved with chains of limitations and negative self-image that can be broken with just a little more determination. Moreso, even when opportunities of liberation are set before us, we're so blinded and acclimatized with our  troubles that we don't see. But all this has to go, and it must go now! You are far worth than what others say you are. You are greater than what you think you are. Embrace this reality, and set your mind on the path to greatness: you too can do it!
